Going for an interview, a meeting, a date, or whatever it may be, we always want to be at our best behaviour and want to be seen as almost perfect, which is a natural thing to do of course.
Today I will be focusing briefly on impressions in a relationship.
There are some people who are somewhat deceptive. They portray themselves as the complete opposite of who they truly are and when they get comfortable, show their true selves.
There are others who actually come as they are either positively or negatively. You see them for who they really are after meeting up a few times and you think, ah well, it must just be me feeling something is not right or reading too much meaning into their character or behaviour, or you think this person is simply too good.
Last night, sitting on my bed sipping on my mug of hot chocolate thinking on how to put this post together. I heard a loud shout and realised it was a female voice and she was crying. From what I could make out, she had just found out her boyfriend was married with kids and she kept asking him, how could you have done this to me. It honestly broke my heart hearing the pain in her voice. She went on to say “all these years I have been faithful to you and waiting for you”… All I could picture in my head at this point was the fact she must have been with him for quite a while and for her to have still been with him up till this moment meant he gave her a good impression from the onset. A lot of times we notice things about a person but tend to turn a blind eye on these things maybe because of love, or because we do not want to rock the boat until something such as what the lady found out happens.
No matter the position you find yourself in a relationship, go into it with genuine and good intentions. Don’t cause pain and hurt. The book of Proverbs says that first impressions are the most lasting.
Who do people say you are? If I asked someone about you, what would they have to say about you? Would you be happy with the answers that would be gotten? Can you genuinely say you have left a lasting impression with people you have met? As Sonya Parker says – “Almost everyone will make a good first impression, but only a few will make a good lasting impression”.
As you venture into your day and week, stay true, stay honest, keep Sparkling and most of all Be Real.
