Victoria had her first child and son in November 2008. Before he was born, she had gone through the usual antenatal check-ups and nothing was found wrong with her baby.
When Joshua was born, he was born with two holes in his heart and was later diagnosed with down syndrome. For Victoria, who had just come from Nigeria to Manchester, UK, down syndrome was a new name to her. She went from shock to been scared and heartbroken seeing her son connected to equipment’s and placed in an incubator.
She had to be educated about down syndrome and what it would entail.
Down -syndrome is not a disease. It is a genetic condition that can have a huge impact on a child’s development all their lives.
Joshua was in hospital for months and had to undergo heart surgery.
SPARKLING THROUGH IT ALL
With the support of her amazing mum (who sadly passed away in July 2016), and her faith in God , she was able to carry on and care for her son.
It has been a rough road and it has not been easy but Victoria has made sure Joshua is treated like every other child. Joshua is now 8 years old and loves going to school, singing (especially gospel songs) . He loves to dance and recently got a baby brother (John) who he loves very much..
Victoria is the founder of a charity called Lovely Heritage Down -syndrome. The focus of this charity is inclusion ,awareness, provide support and encourage parents and carers.
Having a son with down syndrome, she has dedicated her time caring for him but it did not stop her from returning to school. She obtained a certificate in MSc Management and also has work experience in Administration and Human Resource.
